Carnegie Corporation of New York records, circa 1872-2015
3000 linear feetMinutes, correspondence, annual reports, press releases, financial records, photographs, memorabilia, audiovisual, digital and printed materials document the philanthropic activities and administration of the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The collection is actively growing, primarily through regular document transfers from the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Andrew Carnegie's biographical information and personal philanthropic activity can be found in Series VII. In addition, his pre-1911 gifts, most notably his donations for libraries and church organs, can be found on microfilm (Series II), in the Home Trust Company Records (VI.A), and Financial Record Books (I.C.1). Grant files (Series III.A), which comprise the bulk of the collection) provide information on projects and institutions founded, endowed or supported by the Corporation. The Special Initiatives series (Series IV) contains the records of task forces, commissions and councils, formed by the Corporation mostly during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s to address specific issues. The Corporation's records include those of other Carnegie philanthropic organizations (Series VI), including the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Home Trust Company, both of which shared staff, officers, and office space with the Corporation for a period of time.

Telford Taylor papers, 1918-1998, bulk 1949-1992
136.75 linear feetThe Telford Taylor Papers collect the work of Telford Taylor as a lawyer, legal scholar, writer, and historian. The documents include Taylor's work in Nuremberg with the International and Nuremberg Military Tribunals, his work within departments created by the New Deal, some of his legal case files (particularly on civil liberties cases), and other professional interests that Taylor had. The collection also contains Taylor's writings including drafts of his books, speeches, interviews, teaching materials, and much of the research behind these pursuits. The genre of materials includes official reports, correspondence, manuscripts, annotated texts and photographs. The collection also contains Taylor's research materials in the form of annotations, notes, and clippings.

Milton Handler papers, 1923-1997
107.5 linear feetThe Milton Handler Papers span the years 1923 to 1997. The collection's earliest records are class notes taken by Handler while he was a student at Columbia University. The most recent records consist of travel correspondence. In essence, the collection documents 45 years of Milton Handler's activities and achievements as a Professor of Law at Columbia University, a career as a preeminent antitrust and trademark scholar, and a lawyer and senior partner of the firm Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hays, and Handler. The records total approximately 96 linear feet of material including correspondence (both incoming letters and carbon copies of outgoing letters); handwritten and typed drafts with corrections; legal memoranda; dockets; reports; legal and legislative documents; clippings; research materials and notes; printed items such as pamphlets, reprints of articles, and speeches; photographs; audio tapes; and award and degree certificates. Professor Handler made the initial donation of material to Butler Library at Columbia University in 1978. Subsequent donations took place in 1982, 1983, and 1984. In 1986, when Special Collections at the Library of the School of Law had been established, Handler requested that the papers donated earlier to Butler Library be transferred to the Library of the School of Law. He made additional donations of papers in 1986 and 1987. A description of the Milton Handler Papers record groups follows.

The collection also has records from his tenure at Columbia University, including correspondence with his academic colleagues and participation in professional activities.

The correspondence files deal with clients: individuals, libraries, museums and book dealers. The chronological files are letters with individual clients, while the alphabetical clients files contain folders for institutional clients, and also include topical subject headings such as "Libraries""Museums", and headings for specific books and works of art. The subject files contain manuscripts, notes for seminars and lectures given by Carolyn Horton on the preservation of books and paper documents and include files on floods, particularly the 1966 flood in Florence, Italy, wet books, form letters, rubbings of books and sample paper. The business records consist of detailed worksheets arranged by client, describing condition of items bound or restored and the type of work done on these items; and complete financial records, i.e., bills, receipts, accounts and personnel records, including payroll, taxes, health insurance and other benefits, which document the operations of a bindery and paper restoration firm. The card file boxes contain details of work done arranged by artist name and by genre, i.e., music, portraits, newspapers, vellum, etc. The biographical files consist of correspondence, notebooks and newspaper clippings relating to Horton's career including her discovery that freezing wet books prevents their molding
Aleksei Fedorovich and Liubov Aleksandrovna Girs Papers, 1913-1963
25 itemsOne letter, manuscripts, and printed materials of Aleksei Fedorovich Girs and of his wife, Liubov' Aleksandrovna Girs. The letter, dated 1914, when Girs was governor of Minsk, is addressed to N. A. Maklakov. Aleksei Gir's memoirs cover such topics as his service in Estland; Petr Stolypin; the "Jewish question;" Tsar Nicholas II; and independent Estonia, where he lived in 1918-1924. There are also two reports by Girs from the time of his service in Minsk. ́Liubov Girs is represented chiefly by diaries from 1901-1918, particularly on Odessa in 1905-1906; Stolypin's murder in 1911; and Nizhny Novgorod in 1917. Among the printed materials are announcements of Gir's accession to the Minsk governorship in 1914-1915.
