The General Manuscript Collection is an artificial collection of correspondence, diaries, lecture notes, class work, essays, administrative documents, minutes, and other documents collected by the Rare Book & Manuscript Library. Single items or very small collections are generally classified as part of the general manuscript collection rather than assigned an individual manuscript number. Additionally, small additions to existing RBML manuscript collections may be classified as part of the General Manuscript Collection.

This collection consists of ten volumes of business records connected with the operation of Daly's Theatre between 1872 and 1899. Included are cash account books recording income and expenditures, rosters of personnel, attendance books for members of the company, salary accounts, receipt books, and one volume having to do with directions for the settings for various plays.

Correspondence, manuscript music scores, copies of scores, playscripts, scenarios, watercolor drawings and other stage designs, contracts, legal papers, programs, clippings and other printed materials, microfilms, records, tape recordings, and photographs. Among Moross's work are the musical play, "The Golden Apple"(1954), dance music for "Ballet Ballads"(1945) and for "Frankie and Johnny"(1938), the film score for "The Big Country"(1958) and for "The Cardinal"(1963), and his Symphony No. 1 (1943). There are some financial papers and production records for the staging of his works. Among the cataloged correspondents are Aaron Copland, Agnes George De Mille, Ned Rorem, Virgil Thomson, and Thornton Wilder.

Robert M. Morgenthau (1919-2019) served as the District Attorney for New York County (the borough of Manhattan) for 35 years (1974-2009) and made a reputation for prosecuting white-collar crime. In this regard, the Papers hold many research files covering such aspects of white-collar crime as money laundering, offshore banking and tax havens. Morgenthau rarely handled a case himself. He delegated prosecutions to key aides in his office of 500 lawyers. Although not comprehensive, the Papers do contain a few files of assignment sheets covering the period (1938-2008). These sheets indicate which bureau each Assistant District Attorney was assigned to each month. The Papers, in turn, do not have any employment information about individual lawyers or the specific cases they worked on while employed in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office under Morgenthau. However, researchers should review "Series VI: Press Releases" and "Series VIII: Statements and Testimonies before Local, State and National Governmental Bodies," in order to gain an understanding of the issues handled by the Manhattan DA office during Robert Morgenthau's tenure.

Correspondence, speeches, speech materials, news clippings, subject files, audio and videotapes relating to the professional activity of Arthur Levitt, Jr. The papers and audiovisual material deal primarily with his tenure as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (1993-2001), but also contain earlier records, including some materials relating to Levitt's school years at the Polytechnic Preparatory Country Day School and at Williams College, and his work at Hayden Stone, the American Stock Exchange, and the New York Economic Development Corporation, and his advocacy of the National Endowment of the Arts during the 1991-1992 funding controversy. These papers also contain materials relating to his father, Arthur Levitt, Sr., who served for 24 years as New York State Comptroller.

Papers of Vikulov. The collection contains correspondence and documents. The correspondence consists of letters written to Vikulov from relatives in the Soviet Union. The documents consist mostly of receipts for money orders sent by Vikulov to his relatives.

Correspondence and financial and organizational records that relate to the Obʺshchestvo Bystrai︠a︡ Pomoshch.́ Most of the materials, including correspondence from aid petitioners or recipients or other organizations, and financial records, reports, date from 1945-1947.

The bulk of the collection concerns the last three decades of the Regiment's existence and the emigration. Cataloged items consist of 3 photographs of Tsar Nicholas II and a receipt signed by one Captain Lanta, dated 1720. The correspondence is almost all after 1917. The manuscripts include a history of the Regiment from its formation and some other historical pieces by Viktor I. Meshchaninov. Most of the other manuscripts -- chiefly officers' memoirs -- concern the period of WWI, the Revolution, and the Civil War. Of other materials relating to the Imperial epoch, mention may be made of the lists of members of the Regiment since its formation compiled by some regimental historian; biographical sketches of many officers; field orders, topographical maps, certificates awarding medals, etc. The Association of former officers generated much material: accounts, minutes, souvenirs of commemorative dinners, etc. A rich store of photographs forms part of the collection. These include both individual and group portraits of members of the Regiment and of the Imperial family. Especially fine photos of the last 2 tsars, their families, and various urban landscapes are found in the album "Photographies du comte Nostitz.".

Correspondence, manuscripts, diaries, documents, subject files and printed materials of Vorobév. Following the 1917 Revolution, Vorobév emigrated to Constantinople, Belgrade, and eventually to Nice. The correspondence dates from 1920 to 1950. The manuscripts primarily concern ethnography, agriculture and horticulture in the Black Sea region, and approximately half the manuscripts are by Vorobév himself. In addition, there are several diaries (dating from the 1940's) in which Vorobév recorded his professional activities. The documents include a number of contracts and receipts. The subject files cover a variety of topics including antisemitism, flora in the Kuban River region, notes on the "dance of death" and the Obshchestvo okhranenii︠a︡ russkikh kult́urnykh t︠s︡ennosteĭ (the Society for the Preservation of Russian Cultural Antiquity) in Paris, of which Vorobév was secretary. Among the printed materials are articles, clippings and maps.

The Group for Contemporary Music records document the function of an American chamber ensemble dedicated to the performance of contemporary classical music, dating from 1961 to 2012. The records consist of correspondence, photographs, programs, memoranda, schedules, meeting notes, clippings, contracts, bills, financial records, fund raising and grant applications, and so on.
