2.5 Linear FeetThe collection consists of addresses, press releases, memoranda proclamations, and other papers by and in regard to Charles Seymour Whitman (1868-1347) who was the District Attorney of New York County from 1910 to 1914 and Governor of New York State from 1915 to 1918. The material ranges in date from 1910 to 1937. The material is confined for the most part to drafts of the Governor's speeches to various groups on such subjects as the NEW YORK STATE PENAL CODE, unification of state laws, public health, education, and agriculture. Also, a typed memorandum on Whitman's ancestry and a few miscellaneous items. There are not papers or correspondence of a personal nature in the collection. The material is mostly in typescript. There is also a microfilm of Lt. Charles F. Becker's testimony in the Rosenthal murder case.

The correspondence consists of two series, general correspondence and correspondence relating to "Criminal Justice History." There are manuscripts by Cohen for "Interpretive History of American Political Economy" (unpublished?) and other manuscripts including the introduction to the film script "Public Enemy." There are manuscripts by other authors submitted for publication in "Criminal Justice History" with related photographs. The subject files relate to "Business and Politics in America" with related photographs, the Spater artistic censorship case at the University of California, discussion material relating to the "National Right to Work Legislation" "Brutal Justice" with related slides, the Geese National Theater Company, the Pritzker Architecture Prize and the paper "Vicisitudes of an Absentee Landlord." The printed materials include copies of CJH articles, issues of "Historical Approaches to Studying Crime" and other offprints

Yong-jeung Kim papers, 1906-1994, bulk 1940-1975
6 linear feetCorrespondence, manuscripts, speeches, documents, news releases, printed materials, audio recordings, and motion picture film. Of interest in the correspondence are letters from John Foster Dulles, Lieut. Gen. John R. Hodge and Maj. Gen. Archer L. Lerch, the first two U.S. military governors of South Korea, Syngman Rhee, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Kim Il Sung. His correspondence deals mainly with the issue of reunification. The manuscript series includes articles and speeches by Kim as well as unpublished manuscripts by others assigned to him. The documents are mainly those related to the Korean Affairs Institute. The press clippings and printed materials cover Korean problems from 1945 to 1975 and include Korean language newspapers and periodicals. Thera are also some books and pamphlets from his library, including printed volumes of Korean government documents and other books on Korea from the first two decades of the twentieth century, six electrical transcriptions of radio programs in which Kim was interviewed, and one motion picture film "Liberation of Korea."
