Howard Kenneth Clark papers, 1896-1979

The collection includes six letters from Chambers, one letter from John Kendrick Bangs to Chambers, and 14 scrapbooks which also include printed materials about Richard Harding Davis (1864-1916) and George Barr McCutcheon (1866-1928). There are also some Clark family photographs and memorabilia.

The collection, acquired by the Fuchs & Lang Manufacturing Co., is comprised of examples of the work of every major 19th century lithographer and lithographic printer, including Senefelder, Hullmandel, Lemercier, and Currier & Ives. The lithographs are arranged according to the numbers in the catalogs published by the company. This chronological sequence is supplemented by indexes to the lithographers and lithographic printers. 1 Linear FeetA collection of ancient Greek and Roman coins formed by Columbia professor George N. Olcott (A.B. 1893; Ph.D. 1899). The coins are arranged in chronological order in two cabinets. A hand-written card catalog indexes and describes each coin. In 1958 the Library acquired a collection of squeezes of almost all the coins used in the ancient Greek city of Syracuse on the island of Sicily
Congressional Vote Analysis : card Index, 1789-1942
36 linear feetFiles of the Congressional Vote Analysis and Allied Work Phases were stored at Columbia by the WPA at the termination of the Historical Record Survey. The material was listed in inventory form. This collection was sent to the University of Michigan so that its contents could be transferred into a computer data storage system. The files of roll-call votes and summaries of their contents are now available on magnetic tape. The files of approximately 20,000 maps, the correspondence files, and the research files are now housed at the National Archives in Washington. Columbia now retains only the card index to the collection.

There are numerous pen-and-ink sketches of landscape, architecture, historical sites, and inhabitants, and maps, some in water color. Pasted in the volume are memorabilia such as menus, hotel brochures, postcards, photographs, clippings, calling cards, etc. Of special interest are his accounts of the various native Christian communities he visited. Following the text there is a name index. In addition to the volume there are some related letters, documents, memorabilia and published maps.
