Bray, 1809-1895, early socialist writer and labor agitator in England, 1822, returned to America in 1842. Michigan experiences, 1842-1896, papers 1860-1890; IV) Ernest Jones Papers. Correspondence, family and business papers of Ernest Jones, 1819-1869, English militant socialist and leader of the Chartist movement, and publisher of two newspapers propagating Marxist doctrines. Collection consists of ca.1,708 items, and some family correspondence and mementoes. The most valuable part appears to be his notes refuting various libel charges brought against him. These are biographical in nature relating to Greenberg, his family, friends, business associates, authors, politicians, and other public figures. Among the letters are one each from public figures including Robert Benchley, Bennett Cerf, Fiorello La Guardia, and Eleanor Roosevelt.

Records of the North American Committee to Aid Spanish Democracy and Medical Bureau to Aid Spanish Democracy, two New York City-based American organizations working to raise funds and provide medical and humanitarian aid for the Republican cause in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), and to refugees who fled Spain after the defeat of the Republican forces in April 1939. The organizations formally merged in January 1938 and became known as the Spanish Refugee Relief Campaign. These files include the organization's official reports, correspondence, pamphlets, broadsides, photographs, and publicity material, as well as several scrapbooks of news clippings.

Series II includes correspondence relating to changes in articles, production schedules and procedures, and financial records. The Classified Office Files contain correspondence of administrative officers of IESS; memoranda, minutes and agendas of Editorial Advisory Board meetigs; lists of biographers and suggested contributors; and monthly reports. General Production Files are composed of correspondence, invoices, drafts of table of contents, a style manual, editing procedures, and an index. There is also correspondence with prospective members of the Editorial Advisory Board.

A large collection of the letters and manuscripts of Rafael de Zayas Enriquez, as well as a miscellaneous collection of letters and bills of sale pertaining to the activities of Marius de Zayas. The Rafael de Zayas Enriquez papers include letters, manuscripts, books, and clippings. His writings reflect his many and varied talents and interests: history, poetry, sociology, novels, and plays. His manuscripts and books comprise the bulk of this collection. The photocopies of letters to Marius de Zayas pertain to the magazine "291" and the Modern Gallery. There is correspondence from Pablo Picasso, Diego Rivera, Paul Guillaume, Max Jacob, Agnes Meyer, Alfred Stieglitz, Tristan Tzara, and Max Weber. The majority of these letters are unpublished although some of the most important ones appear in Michel Sanouillet's Francis Picabia et "291" (Paris, 1966).
