Correspondence and papers of various members of the Kane and Hand families. The collection includes the business correspondence of Oliver Kane of Albany (early 19th century); the correspondence of Moses Hand (1764-1826) of Baltimore; the letters and papers of Thomas Jennings Hand (1824-1908) of New York, with many letters from Professor William Hand Browne of John Hopkins; the diaries and account books of Thomas Jennings Hand, extending from 1859 to 1901, and the household account books of his wife; the family correspondence, accounts, and personal papers of Oliver Kane-Hand (1863-1941); various legal documents and papers of Oliver Kane-Hand (1863-1941); various legal documents and papers of Oliver Kane King, Thomas Jennings Hand, Jr. and Oliver Kane-Hand; and a group of family photographs.

Correspondence, manuscripts, drafts, notes, journals, scrapbooks, audio tapes, datebooks and calendars, photographs, printed material, and memorabilia. Included are files relating to articles which she researched and wrote while on the staff of LIFE magazine, especially on popular figures in current literature and the arts. There are also research files and typescripts for her books: PLEASE TOUCH, A DIFFERENT WOMAN, and FAMILIES. Among the correspondents are: Paul Bowles, Agnes de Mille, Ken Kesey, and Hope Cooke Namgyal

Correspondence; manuscripts of books, chapters, addresses, lectures, articles, and other writings; clippings and other printed materials relating to Butler's life and career, and memorabilia, ca. 1900-1947. Also, correspondence, 1891-1946, between Butler and presidents of the United States including William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Woodrow Wilson, Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Harry S. Truman.

A collection of letters and memorabilia of John William Burgess, his wife, Ruth Payne Jewett Burgess, his son Elisha Payne Jewett Burgess, his daughter-in-law, Annette Curnen Burgess, his grand-daughter, Ruth Payne Jewett Burgess, and the Burgess, Jewett, Payne, and Curnen families. The personal correspondence numbering 17 items, covers the period 1908 to 1927 mainly between John and Elisha Burgess. There are two letters of a social nature from Eleanor Roosevelt and Nicholas Murray Butler and one lengthy post card from George Bernard Shaw to Annette Curnen Burgess. Also, memorabilia including portraits, photographs, books, diplomas, and medals.

The papers consist of correspondence, diaries, journals, interviews, manuscripts, transcripts, and printed material.

Personal correspondence, speeches, subject files, photographs, and printed and miscellaneous material of Hogan. The correspondence, speeches, and other material relate primarily to his activities as District Attorney, and to his unsuccessful campaign for the U.S. Senate, 1958. The papers also reflect Hogan's deep concern for Columbia University, as a Trustee and a member of numerous alumni committees. Among the major correspondents are Harry J. Carman, Dwight David Eisenhower, Robert F. Kennedy, Arthur Hays Sulzburger, and Herbert Bayard Swope.
