John Maclane Johansen received his architecture degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1942 where he studied under Walter Gropius. He worked under Marcel Breuer and at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill before opening his own private office in New Canaan, Connecticut, where he became known as one of the Harvard Five. He later formed a partnership with Ashok Bhavnani. Major projects include the Oklahoma (Mummers) Theater in Oklahoma City; the Goddard Library at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts; the Charles Center Theater Building (Mechanic Theater) in Baltimore, the United States Embassy in Dublin, Ireland, and the Island House and Rivercross apartments on Roosevelt Island, which he completed with Bhavnani. Johansen also designed numerous private residences in Connecticut and New York, and a series of conceptual projects such as the Leapfrog City project and the "Moon Module" house. The collection largely documents Johansen's professional career, and includes original and reprographic architectural drawings, photographs, negatives, professional papers, publications, reference files, and one scale model.

This collection of records document the institutional history of the Center for US-China Arts Exchange, established in 1978. Under the directorship of professor and renowned composer Chou Wen-chung, the Center is a not-for-profit organization that connected arts professionals from the US and China through a spectrum of curated programs, conferences, and research trips. Bulk dated between 1977 and 2003, materials in this collection consist of correspondence, reports, photographs, printed materials, as well as audiovisual items. The collection serves as important material evidence that help to tell the recent history of cultural communications among individuals and organizations across the Pacific.

This collection is composed primarily of the projects (built or unbuilt) that Taliesin Associated Architects (TAA) conducted in Iran in collaboration with Nezam Amery and his office NAKK spanning from 1965 to 1979. The collection includes final and working project drawings, correspondences, contracts, estimates, calculation, photographs, and additional papers. It also includes records of litigation after 1979 in the United States Courts. While the time of the projects overlaps, the series are arranged chronologically based on the dates each contract was signed.

This collection consists of correspondence, photographs and an unpublished manuscript by Professor Milton Smith titled Ready or Not. This manuscript includes Smith's personal recollections of theater at Columbia and the150 plays produced by the Morningside Players and the Columbia Theater Associates from 1927 to 1958, staged first in Earl Hall and then in the Brander Matthews Theater. He was working on it at the time of his death in 1981. The correspondence includes letters to and from Smith, in particular his correspondence with Helen Pond and Herbet Senn. There is also correspondence between Nancy Smith (Milton's daughter) and Herbert Senn after her father's death. The papers also include planning documents and correspondence concerning a memorial event for Smith which was arranged in 1982.

This collection consists of the scrapbook and three diaries of Barnard alumna Stella Bloch Hanau. The scrapbook and diaries were created by Bloch preceding, during, and after her years as a Barnard College student. Most material is pertinent to Barnard College, but some is from her time at Wadleigh High School.
