5.5 linear feetBox 1 (original acquisition) includes letters, manuscripts, and memorabilia, including four letters from Columbia professors relating to Bancroft's participation in General Studies Day, May 1977. The manuscripts consist of two diaries, one from 1926-1929, which includes her account of a European trip and a second for 1969; a typescript she prepared for the use of her students in General Studies History 5 in 1941, entitled "The Old Stone Age" (357 p.) with several pen-and-ink sketches of early man; and four notebooks on ancient art taken at a course taught by Professor Richard Brilliant in 1974.

Materials include pamphlets, handbooks, picture books, posters, lantern slides, literacy flash cards, etc. The subject areas of the materials include science, technology, agriculture, personal hygiene, economy, culture, law, society, and politics, etc. The collection also includes works that reflected social, political, industrial transformation in China.

This series consists of 390 printed items of ephemera published and circulated in China dating from circa 1906 to 1986. Materials include booklets from publication series on subjects including natural science, agriculture, health, mathematics, crafting, social science, etc. Some of the materials were possibly used as education resources for students from kindergarten to junior high school. Some of the ephemera printed by the Chinese national and local government offices as well as other popular publishers were for dissemination of information on topics related to industries, public health, politics, social policies, law, etc. Also included are pamphlets and brochures from trade exposition events in China as well as handbooks and vocational manuals related to agricultural and industrial production and machineries.

The bulk of the material in this subseries is related to the countries and regions in which Max Bond worked while employed by the United States Department of State and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Materials include reports—many of which were written by Max Bond—correspondence, printed material and ephemera. Printed materials include a small collection of Liberian newspapers, several broadsides of Liberian government proclamations, pamphlets, newspapers, and brochures—published by various African states as well as the US State Department. Also here are Ruth Bond's notes and report of her trip to West Africa in 1978. The trip, a feasibility study, was sponsored by the International Division of the National Council of Negro Women. Some correspondence, both professional and occasionally personal, can also be found here.
