The collection is principally of New Hampshire documents, dated 1745-1760 and numbering 240 items, of which all but one are deeds. The remainder of the material consists of twelve South Carolina items for dates from 1709 to 1836, being grants, deeds, bonds, and other legal and business papers; and two North Carolina documents - a will of 1779 and a land grant of 1787.

Items written by or relating to the American poet Walt Whitman (1819-1892) as collected by Williams. There are three autograph letters signed from Whitman to Williams, 1884, 1887, n.d., regarding contributions by the poet to the PHILADELPHIA PRESS, as well as one postal card dated 1890. Also, two proofs of poems with corrections in Whitman's hand and four envelopes; a broadside containing lines from Whitman's poetry, five pages of manuscript notes on remarks made by Whitman on some occasion, two letters, one manuscript receipt, and three printed items concerned with a speech by Whitman, a testimonial, the choice of a speaker for his funeral, and the proposal to purchase the house in which he died, for a memorial. There are two prospectuses for books about the poet, and two placards advertising his books.

Collection of printed imperial decrees (Ukazy), primarily for the year 1813, bound with handwritten documents concerning official appointments, promotions and decorations awarded for military and civil service.

The collection includes three documents relating to Safonova (nʹee Bystrova): a 1912 certificate from the Moskovskoe dvori︠a︡nskoe deputatskoe sobranie; a 1913 diploma from the Rizhskai︠a︣ zhenskai︠a︡ gimnazii︠a︡; and a teaching certificate dated 1915, Riga. Also included are a passport for Safonova's father, Vladimir N. Bystrova and a service record for Safonova's husband, Matveĭ S. Safonov.

Bekker's personal documents, most of which are of an educational and military nature. There is also a handwritten poem "Karl Marks v R.S.F.S.R. (misticheskaia poema)."

A small but interesting collection of family documents that relate to the history of slavery and Columbia.

Eighteen letters of Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough, friend of Queen Anne, wife of the great English military commander, and ancestress of Sir Winston Churchill. The letters contain comments on the political events of the day, particularly the Jacobite cause, the building of Blenheim Palace, and family affairs. The letters were the subject of an article"The Duchess Speaks Her Mind" by Dallas Pratt in the "Columbia Library Columns" May 1965, pp. 27-42. There are also letters by Jonathan Swift, 13 May 1740; John Constable, 14 Dec. 1833 and 18 Dec. 1834; George W. Wales, 22 Jan. 1859; and a document signed by Louis XIV, 13 Oct. 1705. In addition, there are nine original photographs of Rupert Brooke, taken in London, 1913, by the American photographer Sherril Schell, as well as a photostatic copy of poems from the Rugby notebook of Rupert Brooke. Most of the items in the collection are travel permits issued by Soviet authorities in Petrograd. One is a travel permit issued by the consulate of the Ukrainian government in that city, and another is a statement by the local Cheka that Nikolaĭ Drizen had been arrested and released.
