Materials gathered by Maurice B. Cuba for a projected doctoral dissertation at Columbia University on the life of Robert Dale Owen (1801-1877), social reformer, author, and spiritualist. The collection is composed of Mr. Cuba's correspondence about Owen, outlines and drafts for his thesis, many notes and copies of letters from Owen, and photostats of manuscript and printed materials from several libraries in Indiana where Owen helped to establish the utopian community of New Harmony. There are also eleven holograph letters from Owen to various people.

Among the correspondents are Van Wyck Brooks, Carl Jung, Lewis Mumford, William Saroyan, Upton Sinclair, Felix Frankfurter, Jessamyn West, and W.H.Auden. Included is a scrapbook of newspaper articles by Cane, written chiefly for the "New York Evening Post". He served as the Columbia University correspondent during 1901 and 1902, when he was studying for his degree at the School of Law

Professional papers of Roger Bagnall, papyrologist and Columbia University Professor Emeritus of History. The collection includes lectures and other records from Bagnall's teaching work, professional correspondence, records related to conferences and professional organizations in which Bagnall participated, and records of Bagnall's service to and participation in the Columbia University community. There are also research materials, published and unpublished works, and other records of Bagnall's participation in scholarly projects.

This collection contains the correspondence, editorial files and office files of the Columbia University Press, primarily from its reorganization in 1923 by Frederick Coykendall to the present.

The collection documents the scholarship and writing of John Eugene Unterecker, a poet, biographer of the poet Hart Crane, and professor of English. The majority of the collection is composed of correspondence and manuscripts. Materials date from 1961 to 1987.

Hayner (1898-1971), Professor Emeritus of Physics at Columbia University, who was writing a history of Columbia's Physics Dept., 1905-1954, can be found in folders throughout the collection.

The archive include central and district administrative records; cammittee correspondence and minutes; and files on the various programs--such as sheltered workshops, tuberculosis sanitariums and health centers, public baths and employment bureaus--run by the two organizations. The archive also contains hundreds of photographs, including works by Lewis Hine and Jessie Tarbox Beals; extensive casework files from the beginning of social work (originally referred to as "friendly visiting among the poor"); and copies of masters and doctoral theses from the New York School of Sociel Work and other schools.
