7 linear feetThis collection consists of the work conducted by the Fact Finding Commission appointed to investigate the disturbances at Columbia in April and May 1968. The materials include the audio-tapes, unorganized and uncorrected transcripts, and the final transcripts of the testimony from the hearings held from May 7 to July 25, 1968. There are also the general exhibits used in the hearings and a collection of printed materials (newspapers and magazines) covering the events of 1968.

3 linear feetThis collections contains the records of Warren F. Goodell as Associate Director of the Office of Projects and Grants and later as Assistant to the Vice President for Administration. The records relate to fundraising campaigns, major gifts and University planning, including materials Goodell inherited from Stanley Salmen, Coordinator of University Planning. Goodell's administrative roles also facilties, real estate, campus expansion and the Computer Center. There are also materials (flyers, newspaper clipplings, radio and television coverage transcripts, etc.) related the student strike in 1968.

35 document boxesThis collection includes research materials, publication manuscripts, notes, correspondence, and architectural drawings related to the academic study, teaching, and writings of architect and urban historian Richard Plunz. The bulk of the collection contains research papers, administrative records, notes, and sketches, as well as reproductions of architectural drawings by other architects for various properties owned by the New York City Housing Authority, gathered by Plunz and his Urban Design Research Group students during their studies on the concept of "defensible space" in New York City public housing. Also included in this collection are notes and draft manuscripts for "Design and the Public Good" [Cambridge, Mass. : MIT Press, 1982], Plunz's compilation of writings by architect and educator Serge Chermayeff, as well as general research files about and correspondence with Chermayeff. Lastly, a small body of reproduced drawings documents various historic structures on Ellis Island, the 39th St. Ferry Terminal building in Manhattan and Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn.
Stuart Gedal Columbia University 1968 Strike Collection, 1957-2003 [Bulk Dates: 1966-1975]
4.17 linear feetA collection of over 340 pieces of original material related to the demonstrations at Columbia University and their aftermath, focused on activities led by the Columbia Students for a Democratic Society (Columbia SDS) to protest the Vietnam War, end the construction of a Columbia gymnasium on public park land in Harlem, and include University students in institutional decision-making. Most items date to the spring and fall of 1968, including newspaper and magazine clippings, flyers for protests and demonstrations, letters, leaflets, journal and newspaper issues, essays, notices, press releases, memos, meeting minutes, proposals, and many other items, all collected and archived by Stuart Gedal, a student at Columbia (1966-1969) and prominent SDS member. The collection also includes numerous SDS related material such as founding documents (Port Huron Statement), conference materials, and educational pamphlets. There is also some content concerning the Weatherman Underground Organization, an off-shoot of SDS, including a rare first printing of the booklet Prairie Fire.
