J. Howard Van Amringe papers, 1851-1915
4.17 Linear FeetThis collection includes letters from members of the academic community at Columbia and elsewhere, former students, Columbia College alumni, members of the Van Amringe family, and friends. These letters deal with the official, alumni, and personal matters. There are two letter books for 1894 when he was Dean of Columbia's School of Arts (later known as Columbia College, the undergraduate school). The manuscripts include holograph and typescript copies of speeches made by Van Amringe at various Columbia functions, at alumni affairs, and at meetings of civic, charitable, and academic organizations; course notebooks while he attended Columbia College; diaries of daily appointments, 1909-1914; intimate prose and poetry written by Van Amringe and members of his family; a pencil sketchbook and notebook containing three plays by his daughter Emily Bulow Van Amringe. The collection includes numerous clippings, brochures, invitations, and other Columbia and personal memorabilia.

Included amongst the documents are announcements of faculty teas, meetings of the trustees, faculty letters, and a catalogue of the officers and students of Columbia College, 1867-1868.

Edmund Henry Barker letters, 1827-1831
0.5 linear feetTwenty-seven letters from Barker to Professor Charles Anthon (1797-1867) of the Classics Department of Columbia College and one letter to a Mr Blackwell. The letters were written between July of 1827 and September of 1831 and relate principally to Professor Anthon's work on a new edition of Lemprière's Classical Dictionary. The letters are all in a clear 19th-century hand.
Bard family papers, 1600-1892
1 linear feetCorrespondence, documents, and genealogical records of the Bard and related Muirson, Prime, and Sands families of New York and New Jersey. Prominent among the papers is the correspondence of William Bard, 1778-1853, to his daughter, Susan Sands, his son-in-law, Ferdinand Sands, and his grandson, Joseph Sands. Includes 18 letters from Samuel Bard, 1742-1821, physician and professor of medicine at Columbia College, to his grandson, Francis Upton Johnston, medical student at Columbia and house doctor at New York Hospital. The letters deal with personal affairs, Francis' scholastic progress and topics of interest to the medical profession. Thereis also a pastel portrait of John Bard by James Sharples.
Charles Anthon manuscripts, 1830-1875
1 Linear FeetThe collection is composed of notes on classical authors made by Professor Anthon. There are three bound volumes: 1) notes on Latin authors, ca. 250 leaves; 2) commentary on seven plays by Euripides, ca. 260 leaves; and 3) lecture notes, ca. 140 leaves. Each leaf is closely written in a minute but clear 19th century hand. In addition there are several short manuscripts and one letter to Joseph Green Cogswell. Also included are some printed books written by Anthon and various classical editions with his commentaries.
Gouverneur Morris Ogden letters, 1866-1877
1.67 linear feetThe collection consists of Columbia College Treasurer Gouverneur M. Ogden's correspondence and deals chiefly with routine matters of college business and finance. The letters are tipped and mounted onto the blank pages of 7 volumes. There are three volumes of letters from F.A.P. Barnard, President of the College, 1 volume of letters from trustees and members of the faculty, and 3 volumes of College business letters. A letterbook of outgoing correspondence was added in 1984.
