The Malcolm X Project (MXP) records represent nearly 25 years of research, constituting the most in-depth scholarly examination of the life and legacy of Malcolm X to date. The collection consists of the research that Dr. Manning Marable used to write his Pulitzer-Prize winning biography, Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention.

The collection consists primarily of correspondence and subject files, but also includes manuscripts, documents, photographs and printed materials. The correspondence spans six decades and includes letters received by Prince Paul prior to his accession, during his tenure as regent, and during 35 years of exile. Correspondents include Prince Paul's family; European politicians, such as Edvard Beneš, Neville Chamberlain, Anthony Eden, and Benito Mussolini; European royalty, including King Albert of Belgium, King Carol II of Rumania, Queen Elizabeth II, King George VI, and King Edward VIII of England; Yugoslav public figures, such as Milan Stojadinoviʹc, Dragiša Cvetkoviʹc, and Anton Korošec. Subject files pertain to the reign of Prince Paul. These materials -- correspondence, minutes of meetings, military regulations, speeches, consular and foreign legation reports, police reports, voting records, government decrees, et cetera -- were assembled by J. B. Hoptner while researching his book, "Yugoslavia in Crisis, 1934-1941" (1962). Among the manuscripts are Prince Paul's and Princess Olga's diaries and Prince Paul's notes on conversations with Hermann Göring, Hitler, Mussolini, and Eden. Also included are historical documents concerning Serbian and Yugoslav history and the Karageorgevich family; documents from the 18th and 19th centuries, such as a copy of the 1808 agreement between Kara George and the Serbian National Council.

Correspondence with many well known authors and scientists, correspondence with publishers, contracts, and other materials dealing with the many series of books which she has organized. Dr Anshen has edited over one hundred works in fields ranging from physics and biology to philosophy, education, psychology, and esthetics. Her series - WORLD PERSPECTIVES (Harper), RELIGIOUS PERSPECTIVES (Harper), CREDO PERSPECTIVES (Pocket Books/Simon & Schuster), THE SCIENCE OF CULTURE SERIES (Harcourt, Brace), PERSPECTIVES IN HUMANISM (World Pub. Co.), and THE TREE OF LIFE SERIES - have been concerned with new trends in scientific thought and the mutual intelligibility of the various arts and sciences. A new series, CONVERGENCE (Columbia University Press), was started in 1981 dealing with ideas that changed, or that are changing the world. Books from the various series are also included. There is also personal material of Dr Anshen and her family.

Correspondence, manuscripts, contracts, memos., and photographs. The correspondence pertains to the publications of numerous important fiction and non-fiction authors. The files are particularly strong for authors included in two important historical series"The New American Nation" Richard B. Morris and Henry S. Commager, editors; and "The Rise of Modern Europe" William L. Langer, editor. The files of Cass Canfield Sr. contain substantial material on Planned Parenthood and International Planned Parenthood.

The materials that comprise the Historical Biographical Files have been collected and added to from a variety of sources over the years by current and previous staff. The files consist of materials related to people who have a connection to the University whether as student, alumni, administrator, faculty, staff, guest lecturer, or honorary degree recipient. Materials generally consist of newspaper and magazine clippings, press releases, programs, ephemera, printed matter, lists, reports, and pamphlets.
