The Young Mens and Womens Christian Associations were founded as a response to unhealthy social and living conditions in cities at the end of the Industrial Revolution. The collection contains pamphlets, reports, and correspondence regarding the YMCA 19th World Conference in Helsinki, Finland; pamphlets, correspondences, minutes, and questionnaires related to the YMCA Constantinople Branch in Turkey between 1926-1928; reports regarding the history and progress of the YMCA and YWCA in different countries; and pamphlets, questionnaires, records, and history of the YMCA in different parts of the world including Japan, Czechoslovakia, Poland, China and Belgium.

The American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM), organized in 1810, was the first successful North American agency dedicated to foreign missions. ABCFM existed until 1961 when it merged with the Board of International Missions to form the United Church Board for World Ministries. The collection concerns missions in South Africa in Rhodesia and Zulu; missions in Asia including Turkey, India, Japan, and China; missions in the Philippine Islands; and ABCFM organization in general.

American Constantinople Relief Committee records, 1912 -- 1914

The American Constantinople Relief Committee formed in 1912 to raise money for war refugees in Turkey and surrounding area, and disbanded in 1914 after questions of integrity were raised against the secretary's fundraising practices.
