Félix Candela architectural records and papers, 1950-1984
1876 drawingsFelix Candela (1910-1997) was a Spanish-born architect and engineer who gained a worldwide reputation for designing complex concrete structures, especially thin concrete shell structures, many times involving double curvature (hyperbolic paraboloid). This collection contains materials related to Candela's personal, professional, and academic lives, overarching all periods of his career. Project records document the full range of his work of both his Mexican and American periods. The collection contains extensive correspondence with personal friends, clients, and professional and academic colleagues; a large number of reference files relating to architecture, design, urbanism, technology, sociology, anthropology, and current events, compiled throughout Candela's professional life; architectural drawings and photographs from his work; and writings by and about Candela.

2 linear feetWright's work and ideas were exhibited throughout the United States and Europe on numerous occasions during his lifetime. This collection represents over 40 of those different exhibitions and includes shows mounted by Wright as well as those mounted by some of the most established curators and institutions of the time. Highlights in the collection include papers on Wright's first traveling show in 1930, a scrapbook compiled by H.T. Wijdeveld celebrating the exhibition he organized for Wright that toured Germany and Netherlands in 1931, and correspondence and other papers related to the many Sixty Years of Living Architecture shows throughout the United States and the world.

Julian Clarence Levi architectural drawings and papers, 1895-1963
16 manuscript boxesThe Julian Clarence Levi collection documents the life and activities of a twentieth century American architect and philanthropist. The collection consists of watercolor study drawings developed while Levi was a student at Columbia University and the École des Beaux Arts; architectural drawings, photographs and records for architectural projects designed and developed in association with his partner Alfred S. Taylor from 1907 until 1962; professional papers from various committees and societies Levi was associated with; personal papers and photographs, including documentation on his family and office, his academic and professional recognitions, public events, travels and social gatherings as a former Columbia alumnus; and various prints and photographs of buildings and European artists collected by Levi throughout his life.
