Correspondence with many librarians and editors about the Bliss classification system and Bliss' writings, a part of his "Autobiographical record" photographs and printed pamphlets, and articles by Bliss and others. There are also fifteen notebooks compiled by Joseph L. Harrison which contain brief annotated national bibliographies. Three scrapbooks contain correspondence, articles, and memorabilia.

Office files of two former heads of the Columbia University Libraries' Reference Department. The files of Isadore Mudge, 1930-1937, 1940, and those of Constance M. Winchell, 1940-1945 and 1947-1959. The files are chiefly inter-office memoranda with other librarians and administrative memoranda for the department. There is some correspondence. Also, a file of Reference Department annual reports, 1904-1940.

Correspondence, memoranda, reports, minutes, and related printed materials from the office files of Dalton, reflecting his professional activities in the fields of American and international librarianship from 1940 to 1976. The major areas of interest are library education, especially foreign students; the Dewey Decimal Classification and its publisher, the Forest Press; the American Library Association, particularly its Reference Service Division's Bibliography Committee; the Council of National Library Associations; Franklin Book Programs; the International Federation of Library Associations; the National Book Committee; and WHO'S WHO IN LIBRARY SERVICE.

Library survey papers documenting Lyle's service on "visitation committees" of the Southern Association of Colleges and Universities. For each library evaluation or survey there are letters, committee documents, and related supporting materials supplied by the library under study. Southern academic libraries surveyed include the Universities of North and South Carolina, Rice University, and Washington and Lee University.

Correspondence and reports of the Joint Committee on Importations of Thomas Paul Fleming (1907-), Medical Librarian, Columbia University, 1927-1972. The major correspondents are Thomas P. Fleming, Representative of the Medical Library Association, Harry M. Lydenberg, Chairman and Director of the New York Public Library, and Keyes D. Metcalf, Executive Board Member and Director of Harvard University Library.
